You may have seen some videos on social media (or maybe just our algorithms) about the growing number of bars in London offering serious singing, whether it’s traditional Irish tunes or something more appealing. Now it’s Southwark’s turn, where the team behind Mc & Sons in Borough and Vauxhall are opening their first singing bar.
Molly Mc’s is named after the family’s grandmother, and the bar’s decor is quirky, featuring her personal letters and memorabilia. On the drinks front, they offer a cocktail menu focused on Irish spirits, such as the Old Fashioned, which is made with Jameson Black Cask whiskey, Angostura bitters and cherry liqueur.
The menu includes the most authentic Irish cuisine, Thai dishes (think popcorn lemongrass chicken and tamarind duck). However, this dish also appears in the spice pack, a must-have for any new Irish restaurant. Here, the spice pack includes spiced chips, crispy popcorn chicken and chilli.
What really makes this bar special is its karaoke box. Three ‘pub’ style cabarets can be booked by groups to sing whatever music they like, plus there are two more intimate private rooms. The main bar also hosts traditional music performances.
When the bar is open you’ll find us in the cosy bar, drinking a Jameson whisky and ready to belt out ‘The Fields of Ashenlea’.
