The season for weekend barbecues and backyard gatherings is upon us. But if you don’t have time to grill during the week, Shake Shack’s drive-thru restaurants can satisfy your barbecue cravings.
New York-based restaurant chain Shake Shack revealed to Food & Wine via email that its summer barbecue menu will be available at all its locations nationwide on May 2. This limited-time selection of burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and frozen treats is designed to capture the best of summer and evoke our nostalgic side.
The company’s head of menu development tells us that all of the new items are designed around the essence of summer dining. “When we began designing our summer barbecue menu, we wanted to deliver the unique flavors of the season and capture the laid-back vibe of a summer cookout,” said John Karangis, executive chef and vice president of culinary development at Shake Shack. “This iteration of the menu is designed to deliver something familiar yet unexpected with a hint of nostalgia.”
The Smoked Classic BBQ Burger is a classic Angus beef burger topped with cheese, bacon, pickles, crispy onions, and smoky barbecue sauce. It’s a classic delicacy. The Carolina BBQ Burger with Fried Pickles takes a different approach, with pepper jack cheese, sweet and sour sauce, and fried pickles all wrapped in a potato bun. The Smoky Classic BBQ Chicken Burger and Carolina BBQ Chicken Burger each feature a crispy chicken patty.
Budget around $10 per burger, as sandwiches start at around $9. That doesn’t include sides, of course—and we ordered fries, which is a guilty pleasure.
For seasonal options, you can opt for spicy fries (wavy fries with a unique blend of spicy spices) with ranch sauce or go for cheese fries. Spicy fries start at $3.99, while cheese fries start at $4.99.
To bring it all together, try the chain’s namesake shake. The Oreo Cookie Funnel Cake Shake will be on the menu for a limited time soon, and it’s equally delicious paired with the seasonal Banana Pudding Shake. Elsewhere, the Campfire Marshmallow Milkshake combines graham crackers, chocolate, and toasted marshmallow fudge chunks for a decadent treat.
Can’t wait to try these summer treats? You’re in luck! Shake Shack is offering early access to users who download the Shack app, which means you can snag the Smoky Classic BBQ Burger as early as this afternoon.
All that’s left to do is choose between the tangy, spicy burgers: The Smoky Classic BBQ Burger features a classic savory BBQ sauce, while the Carolina BBQ sauce offers a sweeter flavor, according to the announcement.
“Each sandwich is made with our Shake Shack BBQ sauces—two unique sauces that pair perfectly with our 100% Angus beef and crispy white meat chicken,” Karangis said. “We’ve also added some of our new delicious Shack Fried Pickles and crispy Vidalia onions for extra flavor and texture.”
