Tragedy struck in the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State as a heated argument over who should foot the bill for a plate of food ended in a fatal stabbing. The victim, identified as John, lost his life when his friend, Akinola Adeleye, allegedly stabbed him to death during the dispute.

A witness in the area, Ugochukwu, provided an account of the incident, stating, “Akinola had eaten a plate of food at a local restaurant and, instead of settling the bill himself, he instructed the establishment to charge his friend, who was not present at the time. When John went to dine at the same restaurant, he was informed of the debt incurred by his absent friend, which infuriated him.”

The confrontation between the two men intensified, leading to Akinola demanding that John vacate his house immediately. However, John refused to leave, and the quarrel escalated into a physical altercation.

Ugochukwu continued, “Unexpectedly, Akinola left the scene momentarily but returned with a knife in hand, stabbing John in a fit of rage. The violence left John on the ground, with blood pouring from his wounds, shocking everyone in the vicinity.”

Tragically, John succumbed to his injuries on the spot, with the added distressing detail that he had defecated on himself before his death, further unsettling the area’s residents.

During the ensuing chaos, Akinola attempted to flee but was apprehended by some young men from the neighborhood. Authorities were contacted, but the police hesitated to enter the area due to its perceived volatile nature. As a result, community members transported John’s lifeless body to a nearby street junction, where they handed Akinola over to the police.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect had been taken to the State Criminal Investigations Department. Hundeyin also disclosed that the case would be presented in court, with proceedings scheduled to begin the following day.

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the consequences that can arise from trivial disputes, highlighting the need for peaceful conflict resolution within communities.
