Holy Guacamole Brings Authentic Mexican To New Sudbury

by Ella

Although spring temperatures remain cool, Holy Guacamole on LaSalle Avenue in New Sudbury reports strong sales. The Honduran Vazquez brothers have even expanded their patio. They credit lively merengue and salsa music for drawing crowds.

Inspiration and Early Decisions

Earlier this year, Donaldo, Dave, and Marcelo Vazquez visited a popular food truck in Sarasota, Florida. They decided to start Holy Guacamole as a summer venture. “People here no longer have to travel to Mexico for authentic Mexican food,” said Donaldo. “They step onto the patio, hear the music, and instantly brighten up.”

Daily Operations and Fresh Ingredients

Each day, Donaldo spends his time making fresh guacamole, cutting limes and onions, and talking with customers and vendors. “I watch what people order most,” he says. His hands-on approach ensures every dish stays true to family recipes.

Menu Highlights

Tacos de Quesabirria

Known as Dish No. 5, these tacos feature slow-cooked, spice-infused beef, crispy tortillas, and melted cheese. They come with onions, cilantro, and a warm Mexican broth for dipping.

Tacos al Pastor

Soft tortillas hold tender pork, sweet pineapple, and savory seasonings. These tacos remain a top choice among Canadian customers.

Donaldo notes that in Honduras, hard tortillas are more popular. In Canada, diners prefer the softer variety.

Family Roots and Entrepreneurial Spirit

The Vazquez family owns two restaurants in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, plus a mahogany plantation and a coffee farm. “We’re very entrepreneurial,” Donaldo says. “We work hard and care about our food.”

All three brothers moved to Sudbury in 2017 to attend Cambrian College. They study business, mining, and human resources.

Community Events and Official Launch

Holy Guacamole plans to appear at several summer festivals, including:

  • Valley East Days

  • Southridge Mall’s Five Way Carnival

  • Poutinefest

  • Ribfest

Although the truck is already open, their official launch is set for June 14. The first 100 guests will receive free churros. The event will feature face painting, DJ sets, and more.

Future Vision

“Our goal is to open a plaza or restaurant by the end of summer,” Donaldo shared. “The demand is here.”

Truck Hours

Monday–Saturday: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sunday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Holy Guacamole continues to bring authentic Mexican flavors and a festive atmosphere to New Sudbury’s community.
