Dunkin’S Summer Drop: Guava, Bacon & A Deepfake Twist

by Ella

The first breezy day of summer has arrived, and one coffee chain wants to keep you caffeinated and hydrated even during the warm weather.

Dunkin’ is welcoming the summer with three new menu items featuring some of the best-known names in the industry. From fresh guava drinks to the latest spring flavors, there’s plenty of Dunkin’ brand surprises to enjoy. Plus, Dunkin’ is putting some lighthearted, fun elements on its $6 menu (from some household names, of course).

“At Dunkin’, we’re committed to bringing more fun and value to our customers’ day,” Dunkin’ Chief Marketing Officer Jill McVicker Nelson told Food & Wine. “We’re excited to be working with some familiar faces to celebrate our $6 menu in a way that’s true to Dunkin’ style: fun and always a little surprising.”

The brand confirmed that two new drinks and a pastry will be added to the existing line-up. The new Tropical Guava Dunkin’ Refresher is described as a “vibrant, fruity” drink that’s packed with B vitamins for a little kick. (A medium-strength Refresher typically contains about 100 mg of caffeine.)

Dunkin’ is also launching a Pistachio Signature Latte, which reimagines the existing Pistachio Swirl as a rich, espresso-based drink. Plus, the Iced Strawberry Lemon Bread adds a fruity twist to the classic drink.

Food blogger Markie Devo leaked the new menu in early April and speculated that app-exclusive Caramel Oat Shake Espresso and Pistachio Shake Espresso might also be on the way.

Luckily, the fan-favorite Dunkalatte and $6 Meal (now with bacon) aren’t going away, and Dunkin’ has tapped some big-name stars to promote it.

The Massachusetts-based brand tapped stars like James Marsden, Charles Melton, Trammell Tillman, Gavin Casalero, Dylan Efron and Zana Garg to highlight the significance of the value deal.

In 90-second spots, each person confides their deepest thoughts and vulnerable feelings to a Dunkin’ rep. (If you’ve ever worked the drive-thru at any major chain, the oversharing vibe might be a little too apt.)

“I’ve been described as memorably symmetrical,” says Severance star Trammell Tillman, who is widely praised for his charming good looks and stunning acting skills, in the skit. “I carry this burden in silence.”

The ad positions the $6 meal as “cheaper than therapy” — which, unfortunately, is true for anyone who’s recently received an out-of-network bill. Of course, Dunkin’ plans to further its industry-wide value war with a slew of new membership promotions this May.

Among the perks, you can get a box of 10 Munchkins for just $2 during the first half of the month. (Perfect for lazy afternoons at the office.)

Beginning May 16, customers can also order a light lunch of ham and Swiss pretzels with any beverage for just $3. Plus, rewards members can still earn an extra 100 points every Monday in May when they order via mobile. That’s a great deal.

Whether you’re hitting up Dunkin’ on your next drive to the beach or you’re just dreaming of warmer days at your desk, there are plenty of summer flavors to explore next time you reach for a beverage.
