If you find ice cream a bit too vanilla and the search for a tasty dessert is a struggle, the latest internet trends are sure to please your taste buds.
According to Waitrose, as Generation Z “breaks the ice cream norm”, baked beans, soy sauce and cheese are now the newest flavours on the menu, with the majority of Gen Z, who are in their twenties, buying 20% more ice cream at Waitrose, which already generates £1bn for the UK economy.
Last week, searches for “ice cream” on TikTok increased by 95% and “#icecream” has been viewed more than 2 million times.
Every powerful company is changing up its offerings for the opening of the new airport, with easyJet launching a range of quirky new flavours in Southend.
Each dish tastes like a signature dish from a popular holiday destination, including cacio e pepe, sangria, tagine, garlic snails and Portuguese egg tarts.
In London’s Belgravia, designer Anya Hindmarch has launched a new range of ice cream flavours, available in limited quantities from June to September and now sold out, with customers queuing to try them. The flavours include Heinz baked beans (pictured), Kikkoman soy sauce and Bird custard sauce.
Bears Ice Cream Imaginarium in Whitstable, Kent, offers a range of seasonal flavours, including hot cross buns and Scotch eggs, as well as blueberry lavender jam, brown butter popcorn and pumpkin seeds. “Since we started, we’ve always wanted to push the boundaries of ice cream creation,” says founder Phil Harrison, who has been dubbed by fans as “the veritable Willy Wonka of ice cream”.
He adds: “We want to create imaginative flavours and interactive desserts that go beyond the ordinary.”
It’s not just the flavours that are quirky. Bears’ recommended toppings are wasabi crisp or corn flakes, while the new range of ice cream sandwiches includes peanut butter, miso and caramel flavours, as well as one that resembles lemon meringue pie.
