PYRO is helmed by chef Yiannis Mexis, who has worked at Elystan Street, The Ledbury and Petrus, and most recently HIDE. The restaurant is similar in style to the nearby Greek restaurant in Borough Market, which bills itself as a “fire-themed” Greek restaurant. PYRO is located in the former site of In Horto.
Sourced from British producers and Greek farmers, you’ll find small plates and sharing dishes, including:
Spinach pie, herbs, barrel-aged feta
Mussel saganaki with toasted bread and grape leaves
Ember kebab, prunes, endive, sour apple
Octopus grilled in red wine with yellow peas
Portokalopita, citrus leaf ice cream, orange wine
They’ll also host a Greek Sunday feast at the weekend.
The atmosphere they’re aiming for is “the relaxed, bustling conviviality of a Greek taverna”, which includes a bar with a large garden and cocktails by Ana Reznik (formerly A Bar with Shapes for a Name).
Given the huge success of OMA and AGORA, we can see that PYRO also has a lot of room for development.
