Chef George Somura Brings Orient Express-Inspired Cuisine to The Okura Prestige Taipei

by Ella

From Thursday to Sunday, Chef George Somura, famous for his work aboard the Orient Express luxury trains, will headline an exclusive dining event at The Okura Prestige Taipei. Somura’s career spans multiple iconic train journeys, including serving as head chef on the Orient Express across Europe and as the first Japanese executive chef on the Eastern & Oriental Express, which traveled from Bangkok to Singapore.

Over two decades ago, Somura returned to Japan, blending his international experiences with a deep understanding of local ingredients. His creations combine Eastern flavors with traditional French cuisine, a style that will be showcased in this special collaboration.

A Fusion of Taiwanese, Japanese, and French Flavors

In partnership with Yamamoto Katsuya, the Western cuisine executive chef at The Okura Prestige Taipei, Somura has crafted a refined fusion menu inspired by the legacy of the Orient Express. The menu combines the culinary traditions of Taiwan, Japan, and France, featuring local ingredients like Taiwan’s indigenous beef and grouper. These ingredients are complemented by a variety of herbs and spices, resulting in a harmonious blend of innovation and tradition.
