New Upscale Restaurant “Lana” Set to Open in Solana Beach This Spring

by Ella

Solana Beach is buzzing with excitement as the much-anticipated upscale neighborhood restaurant, Lana, prepares to open its doors in late spring 2025. Situated at 437 South Highway 101, Lana promises to deliver a refined culinary experience that combines exceptional dining with a welcoming coastal atmosphere, perfect for both locals and visitors.

A Partnership Built on Experience and Passion

The new dining hotspot is the result of a partnership between two seasoned hospitality professionals, Travis LeGrand and Mark Whedon. Over the years, the duo has worked together in various capacities within San Diego’s vibrant food scene. Their combined expertise, alongside their shared passion for fine dining and heartfelt hospitality, has culminated in the creation of Lana.

LeGrand brings a wealth of experience to the table, having opened 10 successful restaurants, including renowned spots like Cucina Urbana, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Brian Malarkey’s Herringbone and Burlap, and The Marine Room. Whedon, with 25 years of experience in hospitality, has contributed to the success of prestigious establishments such as Robert Redford’s Sundance Resort, Island Outpost, and Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills. Additionally, Whedon has a strong background in the luxury wine industry.

The duo’s vision for Lana is to provide a space that exudes culinary excellence and showcases their passion for top-notch dining and hospitality.

A Talented Team Behind the Menu

To bring their vision to life, LeGrand and Whedon have enlisted the expertise of celebrated San Diego chef Jason McCleod, who assisted in developing Lana’s concept. The team also announced Chris Ruhl as Lana’s Executive Chef. Ruhl, with an extensive background in some of San Diego’s finest kitchens, including Hillcrest’s Cellar Hand and Juniper and Ivy, will draw on his close relationships with local farmers, ranchers, and fishermen to curate a menu that highlights the best of the region’s ingredients.

A Stylish and Inviting Design

The restaurant spans 5,000 square feet and has been designed by Workind Studio to offer a warm, inviting, and versatile atmosphere. The space features a central bar, surrounded by a spacious main dining room, lounge areas, and a lush outdoor patio. The design blends modern and vintage influences, with upholstered booths, cherry and walnut wood finishes, and playful art pieces, creating an environment that is both upscale and approachable.

Whether you’re stopping by for a sunset cocktail, enjoying a weeknight dinner, or indulging in a breezy weekend brunch, Lana aims to be the perfect spot for any occasion.

A Vibrant Addition to Solana Beach’s Culinary Scene

Lana will be joining a growing number of exciting new openings in the Solana Beach area, including Rustic Root Solana Beach, Vale Bodega, and the already successful Rare Society. The restaurant’s creators hope Lana will become a local favorite and a must-visit destination for those seeking the finest food and drink in the heart of Solana Beach.

For LeGrand and Whedon, Lana represents more than just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of Solana Beach’s growing culinary community. With its exceptional food, inviting atmosphere, and coastal charm, Lana is set to become a beloved staple of the area.

Opening Date and What to Expect

Lana is scheduled to officially open in late spring 2025, and it promises to be an exciting addition to the Solana Beach dining scene. Whether you’re a local or visiting from out of town, be sure to mark your calendar for this highly anticipated opening.
