Momo King, a popular Nepalese restaurant, has officially opened its second branch in Swindon, located on Devizes Road in Old Town. After a successful trial period beginning in January 2025, the restaurant celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, March 8, 2025. The event was attended by notable figures, including Swindon MP Heidi Alexander and the town’s mayor, Imtiyaz Shaikh, who were among the first to visit the newly opened site.
A Dream Realized for Owner Sushil Paudel
For Momo King’s owner, Sushil Paudel, the move to Old Town has been a long-anticipated milestone. Paudel, who first started Momo King in 2009 in Oxford, expanded to Swindon in 2017 with a stall at the Designer Outlet Centre. However, he had always dreamed of opening a permanent location in Old Town.
“It was my dream to be here from the beginning, but it’s so hard to get a space in Old Town,” Paudel shared. “Even when I was in the Outlet Centre, I was always looking to come here, and it was just a matter of waiting for the right opportunity to come up.”
With the new site on Devizes Road, Paudel’s dream has come to fruition. The response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the food and service. The restaurant is already seeing busy evenings on Fridays and Saturdays, despite being newly opened.
New Menu and Expanded Hours
The official opening comes with an updated menu featuring Momo King’s signature Nepalese dishes, which have earned a loyal following. The new location offers a fresh and exciting dining experience with the option of serving alcohol and playing music, thanks to the secured premises license.
The restaurant will operate from 5pm to 11pm on weekdays and from midday to 11pm on weekends. Meanwhile, Paudel will continue managing the original Momo King site in Swindon’s town center during the daytime.
Meeting the Needs of a Diverse Customer Base
Each of Momo King’s locations will have slight variations in menu and atmosphere to cater to the unique preferences of their different customer bases. Paudel explained that while both restaurants will serve the restaurant’s best-loved dishes, the customer demographics in Old Town are distinct from those in the town center.
“Each site will be slightly different just because the customers we get here are very different to the customers who come to us in the town centre. But both sites will have all of our best dishes and favourites,” Paudel noted.
A Bright Future Ahead for Momo King
With the opening of this new location and the continued success of the original site, Momo King is set to further solidify its place in Swindon’s vibrant culinary scene. The restaurant’s official opening marks an exciting new chapter for the business, and Paudel’s passion and commitment to serving authentic, world-class Nepalese food are sure to keep customers coming back for more.
