A nearly century-old bank in New Castle has reopened its doors, but this time, it’s not for financial transactions — it’s for serving up delicious sushi and Asian fusion dishes. Le Resto, the new restaurant, now occupies the historic building at 101 E. Washington Street, offering a unique blend of East Asian cuisine.
Preserving the Bank’s Charm
The building’s new owner, who purchased the property for $365,000 in 2020, has taken great care to preserve much of the bank’s original charm. Classic elements such as the chandeliers, vintage clocks, and marble interior have been kept intact, providing a nostalgic yet elegant backdrop for the modern dining experience.
A Culinary Journey with International Roots
Le Resto is owned by An Luong Penn, whose rich background spans multiple countries. Born in Vietnam, Penn moved to Germany as a child, where his family ran a restaurant near Poland. He later worked in the family business, gaining valuable experience in the restaurant industry. After relocating to the United States and settling in the New Castle area, Penn decided to bring his culinary expertise to this historic location.
The restaurant’s menu features a wide array of East Asian dishes, including Vietnamese, Thai, and Japanese cuisine. Guests can expect fresh sushi, flavorful Thai curries, and traditional Vietnamese pho, along with many other offerings inspired by these rich culinary traditions.
Open for Lunch and Dinner
Le Resto is open Tuesday through Sunday, offering a fresh and exciting dining option for locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re craving sushi or a savory Thai dish, Le Resto promises a memorable meal in a setting that blends history and modernity.
The transformation of the old bank into a vibrant restaurant marks an exciting new chapter for the building, while providing the community with a unique dining destination on E. Washington Street.
