Bryan Johnson, the 45-year-old American entrepreneur known for his extreme focus on age-reversal and wellness, has made headlines for his recent comments promoting Indian cuisine. Earlier this month, Johnson visited India to promote his book on age-reversal and shared his thoughts on the nation’s food culture.
Johnson, who frequently advocates for health and science, emphasized a shift in focus from fast food and football to a healthier lifestyle, which includes the consumption of Indian food. He took to social media to declare, “Power is moving away from football and fast food and towards health, science, and Indian food.”
However, his endorsement of Indian cuisine sparked some confusion and backlash. Critics on social media questioned his praise, pointing to the carb-heavy nature of many traditional Indian dishes.
A Mixed Response to Indian Cuisine
Several users on X (formerly Twitter) expressed skepticism about Johnson’s endorsement, noting the high carbohydrate content often found in Indian food. One user, Steven Sinofsky, asked, “Isn’t Indian food traditionally so carb-heavy/protein-light?” Another user commented, “Indian food of the type that made half of India diabetic?”
One user even humorously remarked, “Our floating oil chicken tikkas can kill faster than McDonald’s,” urging Johnson to provide more details on the benefits of Indian food.
Irony in Johnson’s Dietary Choices
Despite his promotion of Indian cuisine, Johnson faced some irony in his past actions. Earlier in his visit to India, he revealed that he had brought his own food supply for his six-day trip, citing concerns over the food quality abroad.
In a post on X, he explained, “A lot of people ask me what I do about food when I travel. The first rule is this: food is guilty until proven innocent. This is why I’ve brought with me to India every calorie I’ll eat for six days.” Johnson’s food supply for his trip included health-conscious items such as health mixes, macadamia nut bars, lentils, pea soup, and matcha, all in line with his self-designed Blueprint diet.
Although his precaution was criticized, Johnson clarified that his concerns were not specific to India but rather stemmed from worries about the global food supply.
Johnson’s Concerns Over Air Pollution in India
In addition to his dietary preferences, Johnson also shared his concerns about air pollution in India. After landing in Mumbai, he instantly felt the effects of the city’s polluted air. Despite using air purifiers in his hotel room and wearing an N95 mask, Johnson reported, “My throat and eyes burn. I agree, it’s a pretty serious health situation.”
Known for his extreme health practices, Johnson follows a highly detailed regimen aimed at reversing the aging process. His daily routine includes waking up at 4:30 am, consuming a precisely calculated plant-based diet, taking over 100 supplements, and engaging in targeted exercise. Johnson spends millions annually on health monitoring and unique procedures, such as plasma transfusions from his son, all in the pursuit of youthful rejuvenation.
Though his opinions on food and health may be unconventional, Johnson’s influence in the wellness community continues to spark debates on how to approach longevity and overall health.
