Cafeela Seafood Restaurant in Jalan Kayu Suspended for Two Weeks

by Ella

Cafeela Seafood Restaurant, located in Jalan Kayu, has been temporarily suspended for two weeks, from January 14 to 27, due to a violation under the Singapore Food Agency’s (SFA) Points Demerit System. This suspension follows the restaurant’s accumulation of 12 demerit points over a 12-month period.

Reasons for Suspension

The suspension came after the licensee incurred two offences, each attracting six demerit points. These violations included failing to register an assistant and improperly storing raw food above cooked food—both of which are significant food safety breaches.

Consequences of Accumulating Demerit Points

According to the SFA, food establishments that accumulate 12 or more demerit points in a 12-month period may face suspensions of either two or four weeks or the potential cancellation of their food license.

Rehabilitative Action Required

In addition to the suspension, all food handlers working at Cafeela Seafood Restaurant must re-attend and pass the Food Safety Course Level 1 before they can resume work. Any food hygiene officers employed at the restaurant must also undergo and pass the Food Safety Course Level 3.

SFA’s Stance on Food Safety

The SFA has emphasized the importance of maintaining high food and personal hygiene standards and reminded food operators to only employ registered food handlers. The agency stated it will take firm action against anyone found violating the Environmental Public Health Act.

This suspension serves as a reminder to all food establishments to prioritize safety and hygiene to ensure the well-being of their customers and avoid similar penalties.
