RICHFORD – Mokah’s Restaurant and Bar Pub in Richford is marking its fifth anniversary, offering a special celebration for customers who have supported the business since its opening.
Located at 14 Province St., Mokah’s first opened its doors on January 23, 2020. To celebrate this significant milestone, the restaurant is hosting two days of festivities. The celebrations begin on January 23 with discounted dine-in food and specialty options. Then, on January 25, from 9 p.m. to midnight, the Maplegrove Band will perform live in Mokah’s newly renovated banquet hall.
A New Name, a New Style
When Silas Simmons took over ownership of the restaurant, he rebranded it from its previous name, “The Crossing,” to Mokah’s to reflect his personal touch. “We have a specialty that you won’t find anywhere else, honestly,” Simmons said. “It’s part of us.”
Overcoming Challenges During the Pandemic
Like many businesses, Mokah’s faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Early closures allowed Simmons to renovate the interior, providing an opportunity to refine the menu. Mokah’s offers a fusion of American, Mexican, and Caribbean cuisines, influenced by Simmons’ Caribbean roots. Originally from St. Vincent, Simmons’ passion for cooking began at age 21 while working on a Carnival Cruise line. He was further inspired by his mother’s homemade seasonings and hot pepper sauce.
A Diverse and Unique Menu
Mokah’s menu features an array of dishes, blending cultural flavors. Offerings range from fried plantains to Buffalo chicken cheese fries and chorizo-loaded nachos. The restaurant also adds Vermont flair, with dishes like maple jerk chicken wings.
Embracing Online Services
The pandemic also prompted Mokah’s to enhance its online presence. The restaurant now offers online ordering for take-out through its website and is available for delivery via DoorDash.
An Experience for All Occasions
As in-person dining resumes, Simmons emphasizes that Mokah’s is more than just a place to eat—it’s a place for creating memorable experiences. “People don’t have to go far to find a special dinner for their anniversary or any special occasion,” he said.
Mokah’s also offers a banquet hall for rent, accommodating up to 300 people for live music and light dancing. During the warmer months, outdoor seating is available, adding to the restaurant’s appeal.
Operating Hours
Mokah’s is open Wednesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
