Marisqueira Azores Restaurant, a beloved Fall River eatery specializing in authentic Portuguese cuisine, has announced its much-anticipated re-opening date after being severely damaged by a fire. The incident occurred on May 30th, 2023, when a call for heavy smoke was reported at approximately 5:45 p.m. The fire was located at the restaurant on 1445 South Main Street, and upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy fire damage towards the rear of the building.
The Fire Department deployed a significant number of resources, including 4 engines, 2 ladders, 1 heavy rescue unit, 2 command units, 1 squad, and 2 ambulances, to tackle the blaze. Tragically, 2 firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the operation, but it took over an hour to gain control of the fire. The fire caused substantial damage to the kitchen and storage areas, as well as displacing 12 people from the two apartments located in the rear of the building.
Temporary Closure and Public Support
In the wake of the disaster, Marisqueira Azores Restaurant thanked its loyal patrons for their support and promised to reopen once repairs were completed. In an emotional message, the owners shared their gratitude, saying, “We would like to take this time to thank everyone for the outstanding support we are getting! As a result of the fire, we will be closed temporarily until the kitchen and storage room damage is repaired. We hope the repairs don’t take too long, and we’re looking forward to continuing to serve our community as we have for the last 18 years.”
The restaurant’s community, known for their love of its traditional Portuguese dishes, rallied behind the owners, eagerly anticipating their return.
Re-Opening Date and New Business Hours
After several months of renovations, Marisqueira Azores Restaurant is set to reopen on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. The owners expressed their excitement to once again share their Portuguese culinary delights with the community, stating, “We hope to see you soon as we have missed sharing our Portuguese cuisine with you.”
The new business hours will be as follows:
Monday and Tuesday: CLOSED
Wednesday and Thursday: 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday: 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
